In September, the Court of Justice of the European Union will consider three cases of Russian businessmen demanding the lifting of sanctions against them.
All hearings on cases lasting 1-2 years are scheduled for September 4.
Among them are the meetings on the claim of Kirill Shamalov from St. Petersburg (as of 2018, according to Forbes, the youngest dollar billionaire in Russia), Igor Rotenberg from Moscow (according to Forbes, in 2018 he ranked 95th in the ranking of the richest businessmen in Russia with a fortune of $1.1 billion).
Kirill Shamalov is the son of Nikolai Shamalov, against whom the European Union imposed sanctions in 2014. The European Union ranked the businessman among the closest circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin, justifying this by the fact that both were co-founders of the cottage cooperative “Lake”.
Igor Rotenberg is the son of businessman Arkady Rotenberg. Together with his brother, Boris Rotenberg, they were co-owners of Stroygazmontazh (SGM), the largest construction company in Russia for the construction of gas pipelines and power lines.
The case of Igor Kesaev, who owns the Dixy chain of stores, will also be considered. According to the documents, Igor Kesaev’s argument is that he does not support or carry out actions or policies that threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence, or stability of Ukraine, and that he does not benefit from the government of Russia. Dixy is one of Russia’s largest retailers, employing about 40,000 people.
