Michael Caine, a senior partner at the London law firm Peters & Peters, will represent Dmitry Ovsyannikov, the former mayor of Sevastopol detained in the UK, in court.
“Ovsyannikov… has been arrested by the National Crime Agency and charged on suspicion of sanctions circumvention. Mr Ovsyannikov is the first person to be charged in the UK for breaching Russia sanctions and will appear before Southwark Crown Court on 20 February 2024. He was de-listed by the EU in February 2023, after the EU General Court annulled his designation.” – states Peters & Peters.
Before joining Peters & Peters, Michael Caine was a senior specialist prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service Headquarters. In 2011, the Financial Times recognised him as one of the UK’s most innovative lawyers.
Dmitry Ovsyannikov was arrested on 22 January.
