The Georgian authorities have announced control over international sanctions

The Revenue Service, Ministry of Finance of Georgia issued a statement claiming that “All transit corridors in the territory of Georgia are strictly controlled as provided by imposed sanctions” and “International partners were informed about the relevant procedures”.

From January 1st to October 7th, 2024 there were 347 recorded attempts to circumvent sanctions at Georgian borders, and 852 cases in 2013. All these attempts since the imposition of international sanctions resulted in goods being returned except in cases when criminal liability was incurred for trying to circumvent them, and case materials were transferred to the appropriate investigative agencies, according to Revenue Service.

Prior to this statement from the revenue service, the British news television channel Sky News published a report on the supply of expensive cars to Russia. Dozens of luxury Mercedes and Range Rovers, which were prohibited from being delivered to Russia by EU sanctions, were discovered by TV correspondents at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the border between Russia and Georgia.
