The German Customs reported the confiscation of luxury goods worth 126,000 euros from two women. The goods were seized at Stuttgart Airport.
According to the customs statement, the 25- and 64-year-old women were travelling to Russia via Turkey, and their luggage consisted mainly of expensive luxury brands, including bags and clothes. The luggage had a total value of over 114,000 EUR, according to the statement.
An investigation by Stuttgart customs revealed that the women had sent seven packages to Russia before leaving Germany. One of these packages was seized by colleagues in Leipzig, at a postal sorting centre, and contained other luxury items valued at 12,000 Euros.
A criminal case was opened against two women on suspicion of violating the law on foreign trade, and all their goods were confiscated. Before leaving the country, the defendants agreed to pay bail for a fine which may be imposed in the amount of 105,000 euros.
In March 2022, the European Union imposed a fourth package of sanctions on Russia, including a ban on supplying cars and luxury goods. This restriction applies to items worth more than 300 euros each.
