The Justice Department files a complaint against the music studio owned by a sanctioned Russian oligarch

The US Department of Justice has filed a complaint in a New York court with the aim of confiscating proceeds from the sale of a recording studio worth $3.435 million.

The lawsuit concerns the studio owned by Ocean Studios California LLC, which was acquired for more than $3 million in 2008 and sold in 2019. According to the statement by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern District of New York, Wells Fargo Bank had blocked the Ocean Studios account in March 2021 due to its connection with Oleg Deripaska. This bank also blocked funds on deposit, which total approximately $3,435,676, plus accrued interest, which the US Department seeks to confiscate.

Oleg Deripaska was added to the US sanctions list on April 6, 2018 by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury. Deripaska has been sanctioned for supporting the Russian government and his activities in the energy sector. Around the same time, OFAC added Basic Element Limited, EN+ Group, and other companies owned or controlled directly or indirectly by Deripaska to the list.
