The Lithuanian government wants to extend sanctions against Russians

The Lithuanian Seimas has begun considering a draft law proposed by the government on extending restrictions on citizens of Russia and Belarus. Restrictions on entry, issuance of visas, and registration of residence permits for Russians were introduced in 2022 and are valid until May 2, 2024.

The new bill proposes to extend them until May 2, 2025.

“The responsibility for Russia’s war against Ukraine lies with the Republic of Belarus, its actions threaten the interests of the national security of the Republic of Lithuania and the reliable control and protection of the state border, which is also part of the external border of the European Union. Taking into account the information provided by the Lithuanian special services on the intensification of the activities of the special services of Belarus, using its citizens in Lithuania as a cover for their activities, as well as in order to ensure national security and foreign policy interests of the Republic of Belarus. Lithuania, the draft law proposes to establish certain restrictive measures for citizens of the Republic of Belarus.” – it is stated in the explanatory note.

The bill authors note adopted bill will not affect the state of business and its development in any way.
