The President of Ukraine imposes sanctions on the Russian aviation industry

The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, has imposed sanctions on the Russian aviation industry. He has signed decrees No. 601 and 602. The first Decree imposes sanctions against companies operating airports in Russia, as well as individuals associated with the Russian airways.

The second decree imposes further sanctions against 164 individuals and 11entities who are considered collaborators cooperating with Russia by the Ukrainian authorities. In total, more than 320 individuals have been added to Ukraine’s sanctions list.

The first decree affects 73 legal entities and 74 individuals, including airports such as Vnukovo in Moscow, Sheremetyevo, Pulkovo in St. Petersburg, airports in Krasnodar, Khabarovsk, Yekaterinburg, and Novosibirsk.

Vladimir Zelensky instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the competent authorities of the EU, the United States and other countries about the application of sanctions and to raise the issue of imposing similar restrictive measures.

According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, as of March 19, 2024, there are 225 airports in Russia, of which 42 are open for international flight.
