The US and UK have taken action against Russian government-supported vessels by imposing sanctions.
On September 10th, the UK imposed sanctions on five vessels: BALTIYSKIY (IMO7612448), BEGEY (IMO8943210), MUSA JALIL (IMO8846814), OMSKIY-103 (IMO8889385) and SKIF-V (IMO8858087), for being involved in activities that destabilize Ukraine or threaten its territorial integrity, sovereignty, or independence, or provide benefits to the Russian government.
At the same time, the US imposed sanctions on nine vessels under the Russian flag: BORIS KUSTODIEV (IMO 9103817), KOMPOZITOR RAKHMANINOV (IMO 8606616), OMSKY-101 (IMO 7889835), OMSK-119 (IMO 6929313), PORT OLYA-3 (IMO 4581910), PORT OLIA-4 (IMO 5981934), VAFA (IMO 3422870), VAFA-1 (IMO3482682) and ZAKAMSK (IMO4951813).
On September 10, the UK government sanctioned 10 vessels from Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ – a group of ships that use illegal practices to avoid sanctions on Russian oil. These vessels were added to the sanctions list: BORIS KUSTODIEV (IMO 9103817), KOMPOZITOR RAKHMANINOV (IMO 8606616), OMSKIY-103 (IMO 8889385), OMSKY-119 (IMO 8926913), PORT OLYA-3 (IMO9481910), PORTOLYA-4 (IMO9 48 1934), VAFA (IMO8422 670), VAFA 1 (IMO8 42 2682), ZAKAMSK (IMO 8 95 141 3).
So far, sanctions have deprived Russia of more than $400 million in assets and revenues since February 2022, which is equivalent to four years of funding for the invasion, according to the UK government.
