The United States and the United Kingdom have imposed new sanctions against individuals and entities to hit the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus.
Accordinf to the statement of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), in the wake of fraudulent August 2020 presidential elections in Belarus, Lukashenko resorted to violent on peaceful protesters, democratic organizations and journalists to illegitimately maintain power.
The OFAC has imposed sanctions on 19 individuals, 14 entities and one aircraft. These include two private Belarusian cargo airlines, Aviakompaniya Rada LLC and UE RubiStar, which supported Russian defense activities.
Also sanctioned was JSC Plant Legmash, a manufacturer of artillery ammunition for the Belarusian and Russian armies, and its director, Vladislav Pavlenko. The full list of sanctioned entities and individuals has been published on the OFAC’s website.
In turn, the UK has sanctioned 4 individuals and 3 entities from Belarus: Denis Anatolievich Tolstenkov, commander of penal colony No. 4; Andrei Sergeevich Palchik, former commander of penal colony №1; Filip Vladimirovich Sturchanka, commander of penitentiary colony №3; Aleksey Valerevich Lazarenko, commander of prison №15; OAO StankoGomel, a Belarusian manufacturer of machine tools exporting goods to Russia for use in the military industry sector; JSC NIIEVM, an affiliated entity of the Government of Belarus carrying out business in the defense sector of Belarus; Ruchservomotor LLC, a manufacturer of machines and tools based in Belarus exporting products to Russia.
