Russian shipyards are massively delaying the construction of fishing fleet vessels. The export of marine equipment to Russia is under sanctions from the EU, USA and Japan.
“According to available information, the delivery dates have been delayed for 57 fishing vessels out of 64 planned,” said Sergey Mitin, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, as of July 12, 2024, 27 vessels (16 fishing and 11 crab) were handed over to fishermen. This year, 6 vessels have been commissioned (4 fishing and 2 crab boats). Russian shipyards predict the delivery of 13 more vessels by the end of this year (5 fishing and 8 crab), Sergey Mitin noted.
In 2022, the European Union imposed sanctions on the supply of marine navigation equipment and radio communication technologies to Russia. The same year, the United States banned the supply of maritime engines, deck equipment, ballast water treatment systems, desalination plants, water disinfection systems, refrigeration systems, pumps, valves, rudder and steering systems, and exhaust gas catalyzers to Russia. Japan also imposed a ban on exporting marine engines to Russia in 2014.
