Sanctions damage the quality of Russian UAZ cars

The Russian automobile plant, UAZ, responded to complaints about the quality of its cars by saying that sanctions were to blame.

According to the newspaper Gazeta.Ru, in 2022, under the conditions of sanctions, UAZ lost its key suppliers, and as a result, the company began switching to alternative suppliers.

The Russian politician Dmitry Rogozin criticized the quality of UAZ cars, saying that those supplied to the Ministry of Defence and used in the war in Ukraine were in terrible condition, despite appearing to be new.

“The transfer case is very weak. Oil constantly flows from the gearbox. Engine life is very short, and it varies greatly. On UAZ pickup trucks we drove in Donetsk, engines failed at 5,000 kilometres. On my personal UAZ Patriot, the engine started pounding at 30,00 miles. Other UAZ still runs at 40,0 km, which is surprising. All this points to poor assembly quality and inferior quality parts and components”, said Dmitry Rogozhin.

Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant LLC produces four-wheel drive cars and light trucks with increased off-road capabilities under the UAZ brand. Since 2000, it has been part of the Sollers automotive group.
