The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) has begun the process of promptly cancelling the registration of six Panamanian vessels included on the UK sanctions list. According to the PMA statement, these vessels were sanctioned on 25 November.
“It is the responsibility of the state to ensure the well-being of the Panama registry without international sanctions, and to prevent ships associated with sanctions lists from affecting the prestige of our flag. This is a top priority for the current administration,” said Ramon Franco, the Director General of Panama’s Merchant Marine.
Earlier, Panama’s authorities have already cancelled the registration of three ships included in the sanction lists.
The names of the six vessels whose registration will be revoked are not reported by the Panamanian authorities. However, it is known that on November 25, the UK government imposed sanctions on eight ships that allegedly sailed under the flag of Panama:
