Former Sevastopol Governor Dmitriii Ovsiannikov was sentenced to 40 months in prison for circumventing sanctions. The brother of the former official was sentenced to 15 months of probation.
Ovsiannikov was arrested and interrogated in January 2024.
The British National Crime Agency (NCA) reported on April 9 that Ovsiannikov was found guilty of circumventing sanctions rules and money laundering after receiving 76,000 pounds from his wife and a new Mercedes from his brother. His brother Alexey Ovsiannikov was also found guilty of circumventing the sanctions rules.

According to the NCA, Ovsiannikov, despite sanctions, received a British passport in January 2023 thanks to his father who is a UK citizen.
Ovsiannikov arrived in the UK on February 1, 2023, to join his wife and two children, who were already living in his house.
Dmitrii Ovsiannikov’s father, who holds British citizenship, caused surprise in Russia. In 2017, Dmitrii Ovsiannikov, in an interview with the Russian state-owned TASS news agency, stated that his father studied at the Sevastopol Instrument Engineering Institute and, after graduation, was assigned to work in Omsk. In Omsk, his father met Dmitrii Ovsiannikov’s future mother and then they moved to Izhevsk. Dmitrii Ovsiannikov’s younger brother was also born in the Russian city of Izhevsk.
