The U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control suddenly lifted sanctions against Dana Holdings Limited, a Cyprus-registered company, and Nebojsa Karić (Cyrillic: Карич, Небойша), who holds Serbian and Cypriot citizenship.
Sanctions against Dana Holding and Karić were introduced in August 2021. Dana Holdings is associated with Belarusian developer Dana Astra LLC. Its largest project in Minsk is Minsk World, covering more than 3 million square meters and costing an estimated $3.5 billion. The company is considered linked to Serbian citizens – brothers Dragomir and Bogoljub Karić (Neboja Karić ( is the son of Bogoljub).
Bogoljub Karić was hiding in Russia for several years when he was accused of financial fraud in Serbia. As a result, the state suffered damage of more than 40 million euros.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko praised his business in Belarus as an example of cooperation in the Slavic world, but Bogoljub Karić and his company were also included on the EU sanctions list. They tried to challenge the sanctions in court, but were unsuccessful.
