He clarified that Belgium will impose national sanctions, including a ban on imports of products from Israeli settlements, review of government procurement with Israeli companies, restrictions on consular assistance for Belgians in “illegal” settlements in accordance with international law, lawsuits and bans on imports from settlements. The minister wrote that any manifestation of anti-Semitism or glorification of terrorism by Hamas would also be condemned.

In 2024, the United States vetoed the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations. Since then, ten states have recognized Palestine, including Ireland, Norway, and Spain.
