UK sanctions Russian officials for deporting and militarizing Ukrainian children

The UK has imposed sanctions on Russians and organizations, including Victory Volunteers, All-Russian public-state movement of children and youth “Movement of the First” and Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation.

The UK government said that the sanctions are due to the policy of deportation, indoctrination and militarisation of Ukrainian children.

“The Kremlin’s policy of forced deportations, indoctrination and militarisation of Ukrainian children is despicable, and demonstrates the depths of depravity that President Putin will reach to erase Ukrainian language, culture and identity.  To take a child from their home and seek to forcibly erase their heritage and upbringing through lies and disinformation can never be tolerated. No child should ever be a pawn of war and that is why we are holding those responsible to account,” said Foreign Minister David Lammy.

Among those sanctioned are Aimani Nesievna Kadyrova (mother of Chechen leader), Rinat Nailevich Sadykov (Minister of Youth Affairs in Tatarstan) and Anastasia Pavlovna Akkuratova (Deputy Director of the Department for State Policy on Protection of Children’s Rights at the Ministry of Education).
