President Trump has supported a bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, which is being promoted by several senators.
“That’s OK with me,” Trump said, as quoted by CBS News senior White House reporter Jennifer Jacobs.
“I want to reaffirm that the White House official’s statement regarding how the Russia sanctions legislation works is accurate. The bill gives authority to the President to impose secondary sanctions at his discretion regarding countries who purchase Russian energy products. Also, the President can scale these sanctions up or down based on the circumstances. This, I believe, will be a valuable tool for President Trump in pushing Putin to the peace table – and that is why the Russia sanctions bill has such overwhelming bipartisan support,” said Senator Lindsey Graham.
