The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has formally requested the Prosecutor’s Office to commence criminal proceedings against one of its citizens. The individual is accused of unlawfully working for Russian-based companies, thereby contravening European Union sanctions.
This criminal investigation was launched by the VDD on August 8, 2025, under the relevant provisions of the national Criminal Law concerning EU sanctions violations.
The inquiry revealed that the citizen had signed employment agreements with several firms registered in Russia. In roles including General Director and Director, the individual allegedly provided direct advisory services related to business operations, corporate management, and tax matters—activities which are expressly forbidden.
The VDD highlights that, in response to Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine, EU nationals are banned from offering consultancy in the areas of economics, management, and taxation to entities registered in Russia.
