Plywood from the Russian Federation led to arrests

Five men suspected of involvement in the illegal plywood trade have been detained in Poland.

According to the National Revenue Administration (Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa, KAS), the investigation concerns the illegal import of Russian and Belarusian birch plywood subject to EU sanctions imposed in connection with the war in Ukraine. The plywood was imported using false documents, stating that it was produced in Kazakhstan and Turkey.

The detainees, four Polish citizens and one Russian citizen, have already been charged at the Gdansk District Prosecutor‘s Office. If the court finds them guilty, they face imprisonment for at least three years.
