Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmström Stenborg has announced new proposals for sanctions against Russia, which Stockholm is preparing with its neighbors.
SanctionsLists cites a fragment of the minister’s speech at the National Conference on People and Defense on January 12:
“We want a complete ban on all European companies offering any services to ships carrying Russian oil, gas, and coal.No transportation is available. No cargo transfer between ships is possible. No insurance is available. No repairs are available at the port.
We want to see measures against Russian fertilizers, which are Russia’s third-largest export to the EU. And we want to end the export of luxury goods from the EU to Russia. This is not crucial for the Russian military economy, but it is morally correct. I am outraged that wealthy Russian consumers can wear expensive Italian designer clothes and drink exquisite French wines.A country should not be able to violate European values while enjoying the benefits of exclusive European products.”
In 2022, the European Union imposed sanctions prohibiting the export of luxury goods to Russia, including cars worth more than 50,000 euros.
