Poland adds Kazakhstan’s woodworking plant to the sanctions list

Poland has added Kazakhstan’s Semipalatinsk Woodworking Plant No. 1 to its sanctions list.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration of Poland, the company participates in the practice of circumventing restrictive measures by exporting goods to Poland in the form of birch plywood originating from the Russian Federation.

In May 2024, the European Union extended anti-dumping import duties of 15.8% levied on birch plywood produced in Russia to Kazakhstan and Turkey. The European Commission argued that companies from those countries could not prove they were not connected with Russian manufacturers of plywood.

During the verification visit to Semipalatinsk, representatives of the European Commission explained that Kazakhstan did not have sufficient volumes of birch wood to guarantee economically profitable production of birch plywood from material originating exclusively from that country. The Ministry of the Interior and Administration of Poland noted this.

Semipalatinsk Woodworking Plant No. 1, is a manufacturer of large-format plywood with high water resistance in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The company was founded on February 23, 2012. The person responsible for the management of the company since December 21, 2023, is Daria Alexandrovna Litvinova. The previous managing person was Vladimir Alexandrovich Barkhat, who had Russian citizenship.

Semipalatinsk Woodworking Plant No. 1 is registered at the following address: Kazakhstan, Almaty, Ili Tract, 17.
