Ex-head of Motor Sich stays with EU sanctions

The head of the European Union refused to lift sanctions against a Ukrainian businessman, Vyacheslav Boguslaev, the former head of Motor Sich JSC*.

Boguslaiev was added to the EU sanctions list on February 5th, 2023, for supplying Russia with engines for helicopters such as the Mi-8, Mi-24 and Mi-28.

The court’s materials provide the following information about the businessman: “Vyacheslav Boguslaev is a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the pro-Russian Party of Regions and the former president of Motor Sich JSC, a Ukrainian manufacturer of aircraft engines… The Ukrainian authorities detained him in October 2022 and accused him of collaborating, as well as of “aiding the aggressor state” and treason. Vyacheslav Boguslaev also paid taxes and customs duties to the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic”… Therefore, he is responsible for supporting actions and policies that undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as for the implementation of these actions and policies.”

The court did not lift sanctions against Boguslav, despite his no longer being the president of Motor Sich JSC.

* Motor Sich JSC manufactures aircraft engines and gas turbine power plants. Enterprise production operates on aircrafts and helicopters of various applications in more than 100 countries worldwide.
