Canada imposed sanctions against Putin’s ex-wife and Russian billionaires

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced that the country is imposing sanctions on 77 individuals and 39 organizations linked to Russia.

Canada is also imposing trade sanctions on almost 1,000 types of goods, and is taking down 201 vessels belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet” to the sanctions list.

According to the Canadian Foreign Ministry, among those sanctioned are 45 individuals identified by the Anti-Corruption Foundation (established by by Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny in 2011).

Canada’s sanctions include: Lyudmila Ocheretnaya (Vladimir Putin’s ex-wife); conductor Valery Gergiev; media manager Kristina Potupchik; president of the InfoWatch Group Natalia Kaspersky, Anatoly Chubais, daughter of Boris Yeltsin Tatiana Yumasheva and her husband Valentin Yumashev; deputy mayors Moscow Maxim Liksutov and Anastasia Rakova; billionaires Vladimir Lisin, Alexander Mamut, Vladimir Yevtushenkov and others.

Since 2014, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 3,300 individuals and entities that are involved in the violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as in gross and systemic human rights violations. Additionally, Canada took action against Russia’s shadow fleet, sanctioning over 300 vessels for their involvement in transporting goods and property for the benefit of Russia and Russian citizens.
