Russia’s Norebo Holding challenges the EU sanctions

Russia’s fishing holding company, Norebo, has filed a lawsuit with the European Union court, demanding the removal of EU sanctions and compensation of €100,000.

The lawsuit was filed on July 30 and was reported in an EU magazine on October 13.

Norebo Holding was added to the 17th package of EU sanctions against Russia, along with Murmansk-based company Murman Seafood, on May 20 for being part of a surveillance campaign that conducted espionage and sabotage against critical infrastructure, including underwater cables.

After being added to the sanctions list, Norebo issued a statement, stating: “The company’s management wishes to emphasize once again that the accusations against it are false. The authorities of the EU cannot provide any proof to support their allegations.”

Now, in its lawsuit against the EU court, the holding states that “the evidence produced by the Council is hypothetical and contradictory, and contains errors of assessment in respect of each of the claims relied upon in support of the grounds for listing the applicant. Consequently, the contested acts are vitiated by errors of assessment.”
